Nursing Information at LSC-O

Welcome Nursing Students!

The Library purchases books, videos, and databases of online medical books, journals and professional magazines for our nursing programs. This guide explains how to find and use these resources.

Click each tab (above) to learn about each of the following types of resources:

  • The Library Catalog is used to find print books and videos for checking out or using in the Library. The Catalog also shows items kept on reserve (e.g. text books, nursing videos, and study guides for nursing entrance exams).
  • Special Library databases are used to find medical and nursing eBooks and articles in professional nursing magazines and journals.
  • Medical and Web sites tab lists specific sites for medical and nursing information.
  • Citing in APA style provides APA rules and specific citation examples of citations to help with citing sources.

General Library Information

Library Computers: Use your netID@my.lsco.edu and Password to log on to Library computers. When accessing our databases from off campus, the same login is requested after clicking a database name. If you need help with a password, call the Campus Computer Center at 409-882-3033, or e-mail them at HelpDesk@lsco.edu.

Software: The computers all have Web access with either Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox browsers, MS Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), and a few other course-specific programs.

Printing: All Library computers are networked to a printer. PaperCut software monitors individual printing, with the goal to reduce paper use on campus. The first time you log onto a computer, log into the PaperCut software in order to be able to print.

WiFi Network: There are wireless hot spots in all buildings on campus. You may need to stop by the Campus Computer Center with your laptop or other device for login information. It is located in Rm 101 of the AC building.

Study Rooms and Headphones: There are four group-study rooms and other quiet study areas on 2nd floor. We ask that students check out headphones for listening to audio and turn cell phones to vibrate mode or off. Take your calls outside of the Library. Please help us maintain a quiet study environment. We ask that students not bring food into the Library and keep any drinks securely covered and away from computers.

Do not hesitate to ask for help. Library staff are familiar with assignments and software, and if we cannot help, we can direct you to the person who can. Visit our help desks or call us. Our help desk phone numbers and an "email a question" form are in the right-hand column of each page of our LibGuide.
