Services for Faculty & Staff

The ability to find, evaluate and use information is an important student learning outcome. Instructors are encouraged to create class assignments that help students master these skills. We invite you to collaborate with us in this effort.

• Library instruction with a librarian is available for your classes either in the library or in classrooms where instructional media is available. Schedule an instruction session as close as possible to an assignment's desired start date, and give the librarians at least one week advanced notice for updating instructional materials.
• Members of the Library and Learning Center staff create online instruction guides called LibGuides, for specific courses, course assignments and "how to" guides for frequently asked questions. If you would like to suggest a LibGuide for your course or assignment, please call Samantha Smith (409) 882-3084 (ext. 3084).
• To schedule class instruction use our form Instruction Request Form or call Samantha Smith or Mary McCoy.
• For research help within the library, direct your students to visit the Help Desk on second floor, which is staffed by librarians throughout our operating hours. Library staff at the circulation desk on first floor are also trained to help students.

Many of our resources can be linked to or embedded in your Blackboard course. 

     American History in Video videos can be embedded in any Blackboard course by grabbing the embed code on the video or playlist and inserting it into your course. Please contact Samantha Smith for assistance with embedding.

     Credo Reference is a large collection of reference books, encyclopedias, and dictionaries. Each article is embed-able into Blackboard courses, which is an easy way to provide students with succinct and accurate basic knowledge of any topic (without having to send them to Wikipedia.

     Information Literacy Modules by Credo can be inserted into Blackboard courses and work with the Grade Center. Modules provide students with lessons and quizzes on conducting research, academic integrity, formatting citations, and more. Please contact Samantha Smith for help inserting one or more of these modules into a Blackboard Course.

     Most of our database resources provide permalinks to all articles, and also give users the option to save links directly to cloud storage services such as OneDrive, which the campus provides for each student with our Office 365 subscription.
